Our History…
Crichton Bespoke was founded as shirt makers more than 50 years ago. In the mid 1980s the Barker family, then influential in the London shirt trade acquired the business and expanded the company skill set to emphasise a focus on the traditional, British school of gentleman’s tailoring. It remains in the family to this day and is managed by Patrick Barker.
Today the business enjoys a reputation for creating some of finest bespoke suits in the UK, while our bespoke shirt offering is as strong as ever. We service a growing but highly discerning customer base with classic and contemporary pieces in the Savile Row tradition.
Everything is made in our Chester work rooms, on the same premises as our Georgian show rooms. We invite you to come and visit us and take a tour of the art of bespoke tailoring.
In 2015 the building was renamed Crichton House.
Crichton House, a Grade 2 listed building in the heart of historic Chester
Crichton House is a grade 2 listed building benefiting from a regency makeover in the late 1700s. It is situated on the site of a much older building which dates back to Chester’s Roman period.
The stair case, one of the charming features of Crichton House is from 1704. It was originally the Chester residence of an 18th century doctor and is situated next door to Booth’s Mansion, the seat of Richard Booth, former Mayor of Chester.
Our Original panelled salon rooms situated in the heart of the historical centre of Chester, on the medieval rows of Watergate Street.
One of the most important features of the property is the beautiful Queen Anne ear staircase that leads onto the first floor where we welcome guests.

Patrick Barker
Patrick is the latest member of the family to manage operations at Crichton House. Ever since his involvement with the business in his late teens he has cultivated a deep interest in bespoke tailoring and how it finds its place alongside contemporary ideas on mens style, fashion and aspirational living.
As managing director at Crichton Bespoke, Patrick is focussed on building relationships with customers while at the same time seeking to develop an international reputation for the business.
